A couple of months ago, Crumbl's cookies of the week were created by the Kardashians (or, more likely, some of their minions). I'm not normally a big sweets person, but I was buying cookies for some clients at work and I grabbed myself the "Kylie" cookie. It was a variation on their pink sugar cookie, but with confetti sprinkles. It was the one of the most delicious cookies I've ever had in my life and I haven't stopped thinking about it since!
Enter: these soft, thick, bakery-style sugar cookies inspired by Crumbl’s famous pink sugar cookies and the "Kylie"—only these come with a festive patriotic twist! Topped with smooth vanilla frosting and loaded with red, white, and blue sprinkles, they’re a showstopper at any Independence Day party, BBQ, or picnic.
Soft and chewy, with that signature Crumbl thickness
No chilling required (but you sure can if you want)
Perfect for decorating with kids
Easy to customize for any holiday
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract (optional for that signature Crumbl flavor)
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Red and blue sprinkles (for pressing edges before baking) I used Sarah's Bake Shop from Walmart, but these patriotic sprinkles from Amazon are so cute too!
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Extra sprinkles for topping
1. Preheat & Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. Make the Dough
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
3. Shape & Sprinkle
Scoop the dough into large balls (about 3 tbsp each). Roll the sides of each ball in red and blue sprinkles (leave the top bare for frosting). Alternatively, you can roll the whole dang thing in sprinkles and leave off the frosting altogether - they're just as delicious! Gently flatten with your palm or the bottom of a glass.
At this point, you can chill the dough for 20-30 minutes if you like your cookies extra-thick.
4. Bake
Bake for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are just set. The centers will look soft—don’t overbake! Let cool completely on the pan.
5. Make the Frosting
Mix the melted butter into the powdered sugar and add vanilla, cream, and salt. Whisk until smooth and fluffy.
6. Frost & Decorate
Once cookies are cool, frost the tops generously and sprinkle with more red and blue sprinkles.
Almond extract is the secret to that signature Crumbl taste, but if you don't have any or don't like it, they're still delish with just vanilla.
Use a large cookie scoop for even sizing. Or just eyeball it like I did because my cookie scoop is missing.
Want an extra-thick cookie? Chill the dough for 20 - 30 minutes before baking.
